Jane Rock’s studio is situated in Exeter, Devon, UK, and is open for viewing completed works and works in progress by appointment. The studio was built in 2004 by Mick Rock. It is estimated he excavated (by hand) 90 tons of earth and concrete, moved 90 railway sleepers, spread 30 tons of hardcore and gravel and used 22 litres of preservative. Thanks Mick!

Jane studied Art in Bristol in the 60s, furthering her studies in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, she finally gave up a career in education 7 years ago to devote herself to fulltime painting. She is one of a small group of Exeter based artists who are interested in pushing the boundaries of painting the human form; line, colour and the reflection of light on skin being critical to the way they record the world they see.

During 2005 she had a one woman show at The Boston Tea Party, Exeter, and at The Riverside Leisure Centre. This year she has exhibited work at Theatre 8, Pershore, at The Decorex Exhibition, Chelsea Hospital, London, The Affordable Art exhibition in Edinburgh and several other exhibitions in UK. She is also taking part in the Exeter Open Studios during November, and is hoping to have another one woman show at Theatre 8 during 2007.

Jane works mostly in oils on stretched canvas, and chalk pastels on pastel paper.
Her work is often on a large scale, vivid in colour and the subject frequently
becomes one w
ith the environment.

“There are the shy, the sad, the lonely, the frightened, the ashamed ……..who strive to blend into the background, to merge into the environment.
For some a bubble of joy bursts through from the depths, waving arms in a victory salute.
Hope springs eternal.”
